The 2017 Merzouga Rally will welcome one rider selected from the “Merzouga Challenge” to be held on February 5 during the Enduropale du Touquet. The candidates can take inspiration from Adrien van Beveren, who has brilliantly set the example…
For many it is a pilgrimage. The Touquet, in early February, is a long-standing weekend dedicated to motorcycle enthusiasts. A crowd of 300,000 rush to attend an extraordinary race, which was organized for the first time in 1975 by none other than Thierry Sabine, and today brings together 1,200 riders on the beach. In French enduro circles, this must do event has enjoyed the participation of all the riders who have gone on to star on the Dakar. It is as if what is learned in the sand on the shores of the French coastline provides some advantages for attacking the dunes of the Sahara or the Atacama. Moreover, one of the riders in the 2016 Dakar (6th), Adrien van Beveren, precisely followed a victorious itinerary that began at the Enduropale du Touquet. Like the rider from France’s northern region, a talented rider will have the chance to join the rally-raid ranks in winning the “Merzouga Challenge”, and free entry for the rally in the Moroccan desert in May 2017. And it was also near Erfoud where “the little prince of sand” competed for the first time in this discipline in 2015. With the Bassella Race in Spain and the Enduropale du Touquet, the “Merzouga Challenge” draws from Europe’s substantial talent pool but also aims further.
